We are posting this to clarify on the news going around in social media about banning of few routes for motorcyclists and travellers in Ladakh.
The Shyok, Chusul and Hanle route were banned for a few days after four motorcyclists were caught after Hanle in an area they did not have permits for and according to locals were flying a drone in an area close to the international border, which is illegal. Of course the administration in a knee-jerk reaction closed the routes for a few days.
All the routes are now open like last year and permits are being issued, except Umling la, for which permits will not be given. Some tour companies have announced tours to Umling la without any ground work or know how of logistics or route.
Please clarify with them if you have booked such a tour.
