Trekking or what?

Mountain trips have been popular with us for decades, but once nobody was concerned about what such discipline should be called. You just went to the mountains and now. Later, with the opening to the West, this topic was organized. Today, we often hear about trekking and hiking. How should these concepts be defined?

Trekking is called a form of tourism cultivated in difficult terrain and climatic conditions. In this article, we will only be interested in a section of the whole category, i.e. classic (mountain) trekking, although it is worth remembering that trekking also includes hiking in tropical forests, deserts, or glaciers, and even trips on scriptures.

But let’s get back to these mountain trails. It turns out that the commonly used word trekking is not such a universal concept that it covers all our mountain treks. According to the above guidelines, it should be used to identify trips that lead to more difficult routes.

Less demanding hikes should end up in the hiking category. In practice, the border between these phrases is not very clear. One can venture to say that Polish mountain tourists rather do not play in distinguishing what is what, and in a colloquial speech, the word trekking also enters the areas originally reserved for hiking. But never mind the deadlines – it’s important to start moving!

Why trekking

This question is justified, given the multitude of forms of active leisure. If the decision is made: “I take myself”, trekking may have serious competitors in the form of a gym, swimming pool, Orlik estate, or a newly commissioned cycling route. What speaks for getting up from the armchair after getting up?

First of all, it is an activity that allows us to be close to nature. It gives an excuse to break out of the city, leaving behind a buzz and exhaust. Breathe fresh air (if we run away from a civilization far enough that smog does not reach here), relax from the information chaos, listen to the sounds of nature.

Trekking is an opportunity to explore new places. We are not saying that during a weekend trip you will burn more calories than if you had spent this time in the gym, but we are convinced that it will take place in a much more interesting scenery.

This is an activity for almost everyone. To get started, all you need is good intentions, minimal baggage of knowledge, and completing basic equipment (first of all – easy routes – you don’t need much). Stamina is an acquired thing.

How to start walking in the mountains?

Krakow was not built in a day, so if you have not dealt with similar activities before, you should not start trekking in the full sense of the word. It is better when the familiarization tours take the form of the aforementioned hike: they are shorter, less intense, they do not stumble on demanding routes and adverse weather conditions.

It will allow you to check your abilities and gain mountain experience. This approach also has one more advantage. Gradually getting used to the mountains gives you more time to gather equipment – necessary when you start to set yourself more ambitious goals.

What exactly should such a hardware “starter kit” look like? All you need is mountain boots (that’s the basis!), A thermoactive t-shirt that effectively sweats away, a sweatshirt that will protect you from chilling if the temperature begins to fall, and a jacket in case of rain, plus a small backpack for equipment, water, and provisions.

You don’t need more to start exploring the nearest, not high mountains in the summer. You can scratch the next items on the trekking inventory after catching the mountain bug. If your thoughts revolve around how to start walking in the mountains, we suggest: the beginnings do not have to be either difficult or very expensive. The main thing is to get up from the chair at last.

How to go back to the mountains?

One more situation is possible – a return to the old passion after a short or long life without mountains. People, who follow a similar path are more or less fully aware of what they are “getting into”, so they don’t need information on what trekking is and how to start walking in the mountains? Instead, they look for motivation to get up from an armchair or form, so as not to drag in the tail of the stake when it comes to wandering in a group.

Classic trekking – how to start the adventure with more difficult routes?

After hiking usually comes time for trekking – how to start the adventure with this discipline? First of all, you have to remember that this more serious form of activity and requirements will go up. A slightly better condition will be useful, which will allow you to face the demanding trails. It is also advisable to fill in the gaps in the equipment so that the path to the goal is not the proverbial break with the hoe to the sun.
