Lakes are one of the natural attractions that people consider visiting. Every lake is known for its one or many key characteristics. Some are popular for its clearest waters, some provide great panoramic view, some are known for its sacred meaning; there are many other characteristics that make lakes a tourist visit for many. In this article, come let us look into some of the characteristics for which you will consider visiting these lakes; at least one if not all.

1. Lake Superior in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin

The lake is shared by both America and Canada and enjoys a massive area that reaches 560 kilometers in length. The lake has a long and nice coast, thereby making it a tourist spot during the summer. The lake features a long coastline with sandy beaches, and therefore is a favorite destination.

2. Lake Michigan in Michigan

Lake Michigan is one of the five great lakes of North America that does not share any boundary with Canada. It is one the shorelines of this lake where Chicago is situated. The best thing about this lake is its view, especially during the Winter. You should check the wonderful ice formations in this region.

3. Caspian Sea

The Caspian Sea is situated between the Central Asian Steppe and Caucasus Mountains. It is said to have the largest enclosed water body and is considered to be the world’s largest salt lake. The lake stretches to nearly 750 miles from North to South and has an average width of about 200 miles. Apart from its natural beauty, the lake plays a vital role economically for its surrounding countries, especially in commercial fishing and tourism. Large quantities of natural gas and oil are also extracted from the sea via offshore rigs.

4. Lake Baikal in Siberia

Lake Baikal is known as the largest fresh water lake and the deepest lake in the world, with a capacity of holding more than 20 percent unfrozen water. It is home to some of the animals and plant species that cannot be found anywhere in the world. Baikal seal is the only species of seal living in the fresh water habitat of Lake Baikal.

5. Crater Lake in Oregon

This is one of the deepest lakes in the world reaching a depth of 1949 ft. The water of this lake is crystal clear and is surrounded by picturesque cliffs and mountains. There are also two beautiful islands located here. The Native Americans consider the site as sacred.
