Though IMD predicts that there will be no rain in next 5 days in Kerala but the damage is now beyond control. More than 300 people died and many affected during Kerala’s devastating flood. Lakhs of people have been relocated to relief camps.
After 1924 if is the second time Kerala is in big trouble for this deadly flood. We have seen many roads, houses washed out during the flood. People are helpless, no food, no water is available there. The whole state is now in the red alert zone. This Kerala flood destroyed roughly 906,400 hectares worth of crops. The cost to the state and its people stands at a staggering Rs 19,512 crore.
Many states have already started sending relief help. Indian army is now in action for rescuing the people who are trapped in the water. They are using boats, helicopters for the rescue mission. Central Govt already announced 500 crores help but this is not enough, the state needs more to get back on its feet again.

What is the possible reason for this devastating floods in Kerala this year 2018?
This year the Southwest monsoon in Kerala is above normal by 42%
Kerala has so far received 2346.6 mm rain against the normal of 1649.5 mm (above normal by 42%). The spatial distribution of district-wise seasonal rainfall indicates that the highest excess rainfall was recorded at Idukki district (92% above normal) followed by Palakkad (72% above normal).
The rainfall over Kerala during June, July and up to August 19 has been 15%, 18% and 164% above normal respectively. The rainfall over Kerala has been in general above normal throughout the season. Especially, there were two consecutive active spells with above normal rainfall peaking around June 14. Another peak rainfall activity was experienced around July 20.
