Indian Tourism: Impact of Coronavirus on Travel Industry

Little did anyone know, that the beginning of 2020 will come across as a crippling blow to the global economy in the form of Covid-19. And amid the global impact of coronavirus, India’s economy hasn’t been spared either.

Today, due to this virus pandemic, many organizations are facing zero revenue, and due to this, people are getting laid off from their roles. Apparently, each and every sector and industry is facing the negating effects of the current economic crisis and are left severely bruised.

Accordingly, the Indian travel and tourism industry is also dealing with high loses and nil revenue generation. Even as per the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), this is perhaps one of the worst economic crises to ever hit the Indian economy and has sorely impacted inbound, outbound and domestic travel verticals.

And until and unless, the virus stops, there is a high risk, that the whole 2020 will sink under the negative impact of Covid-19 pandemic.

If the reports are to be believed then, there is going to be a loss of about INR 5 lakh crore, affecting the jobs of 4-5 crore Indians working in the travel industry.

However, when the pandemic ends, there is sure to be a large scale change in how we travel? Let’s discuss that a bit in quick points.

Domestic Travel will Increase

Many experts believe that after the pandemic ends, the locals won’t mind choosing Indian travel destinations as their desired holiday places in India.

Yes, as for the time being, no one would really want to spend their honeymoon, or for that matter, even travel generally for fun to Europe or even to the USA.

Innovation in Hospitality Industry

There is no doubt in the fact that the hospitality industry will be seeing a lot of innovation, and is definitely going to work towards a more sustainable and safe travel environment.

People would want to stay a bit longer at every destination and obviously, not many people would want to board flights and may prefer motorable roadways as their preferred means of transportation.

There will be Great Emphasis on Sanitization While Travelling

There will be a sharper focus on hygiene as well as cleanliness while travelling. Guests will be definitely reviewing and previewing the accommodation and hotels in terms of cleanliness, and only then going ahead with the booking process.

People will Become More Responsible

Being need of the hour, Eco-tourism or travel which is ecologically sustainable will become everyone’s priority. And with this, people will prefer travelling to more remote and off-beat places within the country, away from city life in the lap of nature.

In short, the crisp skies, blowing winds, cascading rivers and glistening lakes are the future of travel over, let’s say, Disneyland.
