Top 10 Water Sports in Bali that You Cannot Miss Out

Swimming and snorkeling in the beautiful blue sea water sounds appealing and smoothening to the mind of someone planning on a holiday trip to Bali. However, for those looking beyond that, how about some exciting water sports to try out?

There are plenty of high altitudes, boat-towed action, and wind-in-the-hair splashing moments awaiting you out there in Bali. Let’s take a look at some of these amazing Bali water sports that you might be wondering about –

1. Surfing

It is one of the most popular sports in Kuta, Bali’s most famous beach flocked by wave riders from around the globe every year. Some of the perfect wave names that surfers look for around the Bali coastline include the challenging barrels around the Bukit peninsula, the Keramas in the east, the black sand beach breaks of Medewi, and the Caggu of the western shores.

If surfing is too much thrilling for you, then you can try out other forms of surfing. Some of which are – Body boarding or Boogie boarding, kite surfing, wind surfing, and wakeboarding.

2. Snorkelling

If you are looking for the easiest way to explore Bali’s underwater wonderland, then snorkeling is the right water sport for you. The tropical waters of Bali are ideal for snorkeling. Most of the snorkeling spots in Bali are readily accessible and you do not need too much of diving experience or certifications. Just bring your mask, snorkel and fins and hit the shoreline.

3. Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is another option that you have to explore the underwater world of Bali. You will find some of the world’s best dive spots here. As part of a string of islands in the bio-diverse Indonesian archipelago, the temperate waters of Bali team give you the comfort to explore the coral reefs and the marine lives of Bali. 5. Rafting

Rafting lets you immerse yourself in nature, cruise along the rushing rapids and steady streams,see some of Bali’s rare flora and fauna from up close…all on inflatable rafts.

Some of the main rafting rivers in Bali are Ayung River in Ubud and the Telaga Waja in East Bali. For a very unique rafting experience, there’s canyon tubing adventures along the Siap stream in the village of Payangan, which allows you to cruise through a ravine

6. Sea Walking

Go for this unique tour if you want to enjoy Bali’s underwater beauty of colorful marine life and coral reef gardens without a PADI certification. It lets you walk the seabed wearing a specially designed underwater helmet.

After a boat ride out to the reef site, participants have to don reef shoes and these helmets, which are fed by oxygen tanks aboard the boat, thereby providing a constant supply of oxygen to breathe underwater. Seven metres down, sea walkers can freely interact with the fishes as supervisor guides in scuba gear keep a close eye and hand over the fish feed for attracting schools of triggerfish, angelfish, regal tangs and many others.

7. Kite Surfing

Kitesurfing is a combination of surfing with other elements belonging to wakeboarding and bits of kite-flying. You can speed over and fly over waves gracefully and effortlessly. So it is the easy answer to those looking for sloppy and windy days out on the beach, where finding a good curl or barrel to ride is usually hard.

8. Wakeboarding

Bali Wake Park is a great place for wakeboarding. It is located near the entry to the Bali Mandara toll road and the Benoa Marina in Pesanggaran that features five hectares of artificial lakes and sculpted vergeslandscaped out of a marshy plot. You can start a beginner’s course for wakeboarding, which is available if you’ve never tried the sport before.

9. Banana Boat and Flying Fish

A great way to enjoy the thrill on the waves in a group of five or six.  This however depends on the size and capacity of the craft. It is a fast-paced bumpy ride on inflatable craft towed by a boat. There will be some deliberate sharp turns that will add to the excitement.

For a higher level of adrenaline rush, try the Flying Fish.It lets you experience some airtime while strapped onto a large inflatable that looks like a manta ray. Even higher altitudes can be achieved by parasailing – another boat-towed activity.

10. Water Jetpacks and Fly Boarding

This is a novel addition to the array of aquatic activities in Tanjung Benoa. It has specially designed kits that let you levitate up to 10 metres high.These high-density propulsion devices can lift you up in stationary position, or move in any direction as you please.  After a bit of briefing on the controls and how these things work, the rider is strapped on the jetpack. He or she can start flying around the coast for an allocated duration of about 15-20 minutes.
