5 Ways to Plan for a Family Vacation Done Right

Planning a trip with the kids may be a tough one but with the right approach and awareness of child friendly environments, cost savings and packing tips, it can make the process that much easier. With the following 5 ways to plan for a family vacation done right, you and your loved ones could be well on your way to enjoying a smooth and memorable holiday.

1. Traveling with Young Children by Plane

A trip with the family is always an exciting time but when traveling with toddlers aged 18 months to 5 years, it can be a little tricky if you are not prepared. If your holiday includes travel by plane, you need to know how to prepare to prevent it becoming a terrifying ordeal.

The position you choose on the airplane is an important one. Select a seat towards the front of the plane where it is less disruptive and you can easily exit. If your child causes problems to surrounding passengers, it is important to apologize and not to ignore toddler behavior.

2. Stick to a Schedule

While it can be incredibly difficult to maintain a routine while on vacation, it is important to plan your day with your toddler accordingly. Trying to stay within a schedule provides young ones a sense of security while in a strange environment.

3. Bring Age Appropriate Games Along

While you will be sightseeing and exploring your location, fun games the whole family can partake in, is always a great way to spend time with one another. Children also get bored easily. From the plane or vehicle to the hotel room, keep simple games available.

4. Pack Smart

For infants and toddlers, always consider delays in travel and keep extra formula and food in your hand luggage. Extra clothing including warm jackets in case of weather changes and accidents is a must. Include a basic medical kit with band-aids and antiseptic products.

5. Planning Your Vacation

Consider the types of sightseeing destinations you will be visiting and whether it is suitable for children. Younger toddlers aged 3 to 5 have very short attention spans and get excited easily. Older children will become bored being unable to partake in activities along your travels.

Before planning to leave for another state or across the border, learn of the activities available for your kids. From child-friendly entertainment and secure environments to the types of breakfasts served, learning of the finer details will help you best keep your children of any age, entertained.

For children 3 to 7 years, consider a day at the zoo or aquarium, visit local museums and plan a picnic or day out in a park.

Resorts are wonderful options for the entire family to enjoy. Look out for seasonal activities. Water sports including the tubes, kayaking or a day at the beach are wonderful for kids in the summer. During winter, indoor play, bumper cars, and ski areas will keep young ones and teens stimulated.

For adolescents, some independence planning these activities and having them participate in choosing which destinations to visit can make a pleasant and memorable family vacation.
