3 Reasons to Book a Lake District Break This Summer

These days, more and more people are opting to go on a stay-cation instead of abroad when it comes to holiday season, and with so much beauty right on our doorstep, it’s no wonder why! If you’re looking to book yourself a summer break, the Lake District should definitely be on your list of prospective destinations.

The Lake District is an area of outstanding beauty that has something for everybody, whether you’re looking to spend the weekend hiking the fells, or simply relaxing and enjoying the views!

Here are the reasons

#1. The Great Outdoors

Once the warmer weather arrives, we all like to spend more time outside, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy the many outdoor activities in the Lake District.

In the summer months, you no longer need to mount a dawn raid to enjoy some of the longer walks during daylight, and of course for those wishing for something a little more relaxing there are plenty of gentle lakeside strolls. For some inspiration, here are the top ten Lake District walks as chosen by the Guardian.

Then there are plenty of other activities to enjoy, from a cruise on Lake Windermere, to canoeing, mountain biking, archery, or raft building to name just a few!

#2. The Accommodation

The Lake District has a really great range of accommodation options. From boutique yurts to Country Hotels such as the AA rosette winning Cragwood, Merewood, and Briery Wood, there are plenty of luxurious options available – great for a truly relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

If you’re bringing the whole family, you could book a holiday lodge, and have your own home away from home! Enjoy having the use of a gym, pool, picnic area, and play area alongside a cafe, bar and amusements. You’ll have everything you need!

And of course there are plenty of camp and caravan sites in the area, which you can find details of on the National Trust website here. There really is something for everybody.

#3. The Events & Festivals

There are a great many events taking place in the Lake District over the summer months. From the famous Appleby Horse Fair to the Keswick Mountain Festival for those who love the great outdoors, or perhaps one of the many agricultural shows in the area, there are a broad range of different types of events taking place.

And of course there are plenty of festivals in the area if you want to enjoy some live music, such as Kendal Moonfest which takes place in May, or the Lake District Folk Weekend in Staveley in August.

The Lakes inspired famous British poet William Wordsworth’s great works, and fans are able to visit the place that he grew up, his family home, and the many events that take place, from walks to mini festivals, and the Wordsworth Museum which houses personal possessions. More details can be found on the Wordsworth Trust site here.

Whatever you are into, you are bound to find plenty of things to enjoy on a Lake District stay-cation this summer.
